Electrocoagulation: an electrochemical process for water clarification
نویسندگان
چکیده
Electrocoagulation is a group of various procedures used for removing contaminants from water by electrochemically dissolving aluminum or iron. The contaminants of the solution may be incorporated in the in situ forming metal hydroxide flocs, which can be filtered as a precipitate or skimmed as a float. The main features of the procedure are highlighted on the example of cleaning of an oily waste-water. Design parameters of a 1 m/h waste-water cleaning system are calculated from the results of small-scale experiments.

Performance of Continuous Electrocoagulation Process for Turbidity Removal from Sand Filter Backwash Water
The presence of particles such as algae, clay, organic materials and water-soluble substances often create turbidity or color in water. In recent years, electrocoagulation process has attracted an extensive attention due to its advantages. Since sand filters are widely used in water treatment industry and their corresponding backwash water is large in volume, turbidity removal will save water c...
متن کاملRemoval of Crude Oil from Oily Artificial Wastewater by Using Pulse Electrochemical Treatment
In this study electrocoagulation (EC) process with sacrificial aluminum anode was used to separate crude oil from synthetic oily wastewater emulsion. A preliminary experimental study was performed to evaluate the most accurate operating parameters, which are then used for the determination of crude oil removal efficiency. The experimental results indicated that electrocoagulation was very e...
متن کاملThe future for electrocoagulation as a localised water treatment technology.
Electrocoagulation is an electrochemical method of treating polluted water whereby sacrificial anodes corrode to release active coagulant precursors (usually aluminium or iron cations) into solution. Accompanying electrolytic reactions evolve gas (usually as hydrogen bubbles) at the cathode. Electrocoagulation has a long history as a water treatment technology having been employed to remove a w...

Reclaimed wastewater has become a potential water resource for many dry areas. Its recovery should be regarded as an additional stage in the water cycle providing a new water resource and preserving other high quality sources for more demanding applications. However, in this new scenario, a special attention should be paid to its physicochemical and microbiological quality to avoid damage to pu...
